This was revealed by Bautista’s elder brother, Dr. Martin D. Bautista, a US-based gastroenterologist, to philamessenger.com.

According to Dr. Bautista, the former Comelec chief, who is currently in the United States, has been complaining of dyspnea, fatigue and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Bautista has preliminarily been assessed and treated for essential hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

Dr. Bautista further revealed that his brother’s treatment is continuing.

“We recommend that he refrain from prolonged travel since there is a concern about possible pulmonary embolism s etiology of pulmonary hypertension,” he said.

Dr. Bautista explained “there is a possibility of heightened fatal blood clot whenever you go on long-term traveling.”

He also rejected the possibility that his younger brother is in hiding from the Senate because in the first place, his brother has not received a subpoena to appear before the Senate committee on banks, financial institutions and currencies chaired by Sen. Chiz Escudero.

Escudero earlier cited Andres Bautista for contempt for nonappearance before his committee hearing last month.

Likewise, Dr. Bautista said his brother cannot travel to the Philippines because of his medical condition.
